ALTHOUGH a smaller yarding of just 250 head, bids were spirited from mainly local buyers competing against Bathurst and Singleton interests at the Mudgee store cattle sale on Thursday.
Lue breeder and grazier Tony Stanford, “Red Hill”, paid the two top prices of the day for cows with calves which made $1320 a unit.
This money was paid for six Angus/Limousin cross first-calver cows with Angus sired calves at foot and also rejoined to Angus and Limousin bulls sold on behalf of Chris Shumack of MC Partnership, Kandos, who also gained $1200 from Mr Stanford for a pen of four other units with cows on their second calves.
McDonald Lawson agent, Andy Carter, Mudgee, said the market for all categories was dearer and attracted a good crowd of buyers and onlookers. Cows could have been dearer on the previous month’s sale by as much as $100 a unit.
PTIC females ranged in price from $500 to $600 while steer weaners sold from $400 to $800 a head.
Heifer weaners ranged from $250 to $500.
