AUSTRALIAN beef exports for the 12 months to June have risen 12 per cent year-on-year to hit 1.078 million tonnes (shipped weight).
Significant export destination such as the US, Japan and China all recorded significant increases in shipments during the past 12 months according to figures compiled by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources.
In the past 12 months to June the US took 234,833t of Aussie chilled and frozen beef.
This was up 12pc on the same period a year earlier.
About 171,633t of this was frozen which was also up 13pc on the same period.
Likewise, about 10pc more Australian beef was shipped to Japan to bring the financial year total to 307,339t.
There was a jump of 37pc in beef exports to China during the same period and much of this was for frozen beef rather than chilled. This brought the 12-months to June total to 133,382t.
Another significant export destination, South Korea took 156,213t during the same period.
This was back about 4pc on a year earlier.
Taking a closer look at the breakdown between chilled and frozen beef to South Korea and it shows the proportion of chilled beef was up two per cent (to 35,426t), while the frozen beef slipped 5pc (120,787t).
Beef exports to Indonesia bounced 14pc to 58,213 and the bulk of this was frozen product, while volumes to Philippines jumped 25pc to 36,312t.
Canadian beef buyers took 20,607t of Australian beef for the 12 months ending June and this was 21pc more that the 12-month period a year earlier.
Another big lift in volume was beef to the Hong Kong market which took 8513t of our beef, up a healthy 86pc on the same time last year.
