Despite the drought all 35 bulls cleared at auction for the Paterson family's Heart Angus, Tamworth.

A TOTAL auction clearance of 35 bulls was an “excellent” result for the Paterson family’s second annual on-property Heart Angus stud bull sale at Tamworth today.

The draft sold to a top of $10,000 twice and averaged $5500. Three bulls sold at $9000 each.

Principals Chris and Natalie Paterson said the total clearance was “fabulous” and unexpected.

“We were worried how the sale would go as the drought grips harder, but new and return buyers took all the offering which is excellent”, Mr Paterson said.

First of the sale-toppers was Heart Marathon by the USA sire JMB Traction and from DSK RR Dandaloo F45, one of 11 bulls purchased by first-time buyers the McKenzie family’s Grafil Pty Ltd, Gloucester.

Their 11 buys averaged $4845.

Returning buyers who have been using Heart sires for at least five years were Neil and Colleen Stackman, steer producers running a 200 head Angus cow herd at “Bungara”, Niangala.

They bought two bulls including the second equal $10,000 sale-topper Heart Mojo, sired by Millah Murrah Katich K20 and from the Connealy Confidence sired Heart Flower K18.

The Stackmans turn-off direct to butchers 20 month-old steers weighing upwards of 330 to 350 kilograms in normal years, but this year their last drafts averaged 308kg.

“This drought is affecting everyone,” Mr Stackman said.

Bulls sold to Walcha, Nowendoc, Wallabadah, Uralla, Baraba, Gloucester, Tamworth and Upper Horton.

AuctionsPlus purchased 13 bulls.

Selling agents were Chris Paterson Stock and Station Agent Pty Ltd, Tamworth, with Paul Dooley, Tamworth guest auctioneer.
