THE Nicholls family from Tookawhile Charolais stud at Rukenvale via Kyogle proved unstoppable in the 2018 Clipex Silver Calf Championships, exhibiting both the champion and reserve champion steers.
Tookawhile Patch was the champion that was the winner of the class, silver calf 376 to 450 kilograms. It weighed in at 446kg.
Reserve champion went to Tookawhile Silver, the winner of the class, silver calf great than 451kg. Weighing 588kg, it was bred by the Nicholls family and was sired by a Temana bull.
Judge Don Riley, Oakvale Limousins, Coonabarabran, said he went with his champion as it was his type of steer.
“He is a great type, wide over the top, has good fat scans and has had a good preparation,” Mr Riley said.
“He has a good deep flank, a lot of carcase and he isn’t over grown.”
Both steers are destined for the steer section of the Royal Brisbane Show in August.
The Nicholls family success was not limited to the Clipex Silver Calf Championship, with them also securing junior champion female as well as senior and grand champion female, and many place getters.
