THE top price of $6000 was reached four times at the 29th annual NSW Shorthorns Spring Fling Bull Sale held in Tamworth on July 26.
A total of 34 head were sold of the 65 offered for a 52 per cent clearance and $4455 average.
Nagol Park Zeus Mantra M152 (P), offered by Roger and Niaomi Evans, Tamworth, was the first bull that topped the sale at $6000.
Purchased by Longarm Pastoral Company, “Amaroo”, Barraba, the rising two-year-old weighed 920 kilograms with a scrotal circumference of 40.5 centimetres and measurements of 134cm squared in the eye muscle area (EMA), 31 millimeters in the rump fat and 15mm in the rib fat.
It was by Yamburgan Zeus K25 (P) from Nagol Park XLT Romance K220 (P).
The Capel family from Bungulla Shorthorn stud, “Calool”, Manilla, sold three bulls for the top price of $6000.
Returning after missing last year’s sale, Malcolm Kater from HE. Kater and Son Pastoral Company, “Egelabra”, Warren, purchased two sale topping bulls from the Bungulla stud for $6000.
Bungulla Mountbatten (P) was by Kamilaroi Hannibal (P) (AI) from Bungulla Duchess 30th (P), and weighed 950kg at 26-months. It measured 41cm in the scrotum and 130cm sq in the EMA with fat scans of 19mm and 11mm in the rump and rib.
Sired by Bundaleer Huddleston H154 (P) from Bungulla Queen 7th (P), Bungulla Milton (P) was 26-months-old and tipped the scales at 1004kg. It recorded 40cm in the scrotum with an EMA of 136cm sq and fats of 16mm and 10mm in the rump and rib.
Mr Kater was one of the largest volume buyers taking home a total of five bulls for an average of $4800. Two of these bulls were for his daughter Sarah, and son-in-law Brad McRae, Trangie.
Also selling for the $6000 high price was Bungulla Murdock (P), a 25-month-old son of Moombi Ooktali G34 (P) from Bungulla Carnation J90 (P), purchased by repeat buyers, Graeme and Julie Hamel, “Springwood”, Glen Innes.
Running about 180 Shorthorn cross breeders, Mr Hamel said he selected the bull for his completeness.
“He has a good top-line, he is soft and meaty and his video caught our attention,” Mr Hamel said.
“He is a complete bull with presence and a bull you can’t fault.”
The Capel family had collected semen from both the Mountbatten and Murdock bulls for use within their herd.
Cecil Roan from “Homestead”, Glencoe, with agent Barry Newberry, were the other large volume buyers taking home five bulls to freshen up their bull battery. They paid a top of $5500, twice, and averaged $4600 for their purchases.
The sale was conducted by Elders with Brian Kennedy taking bids from the rostrum. It was interfaced online through AuctionsPlus with two bulls selling via the platform.
