Rural shows continue to play an important role in country life.
They are a chance for rural communities to showcase what they have to offer and are a great social event.
PARKES SHOW
The Parkes Show runs over three days and two nights from Monday, August 27, to Wednesday, August 29.
It features plenty of entertainment, side shows and trade stands along with a spectacular fireworks display that can be seen for miles.
The event also features four days of horse competition as well as exhibits of sheep, cattle, birds and poultry.
The Parkes Show is one of the biggest agricultural shows west of the Blue Mountains.
Attractions include horse, art, cooking and cake decorating, junior cooking, craft, horticultural, needlework and photography competitions.
The show also features lawn mower races and a demolition derby.
WAGGA WAGGA SHOW
The Wagga Show Society are excited to welcome competitors and exhibitors to the 154th Annual Wagga Wagga Show on Friday and Saturday, September 7 and 8.
Many of the horse events, along with the Championship Dog Show, will be held at the showground on the Sunday prior to the main show due to dates coinciding with other events.
However, there will still be events such as Dressage, Show Jumping, Australian Light Horse and NSW Mounted Games as well as other events during the show.
There will be the usual attractions such as Sideshow Alley, the arts and craft pavilion and other exhibits, an expanded entertainment area for the Kids Zone along with an Animal Nursery.
This year’s entertainment will feature The Rooftop Express an exciting show not seen in Wagga before.
Wagga’s state champion Farmers Challenge team will be conducting that competition with the winning team earning entry to the state finals.
QUIRINDI MARKET DAY
A market day aimed at celebrating the region's local people and produce will bring the Liverpool Plains community together on Sunday, September 9 at the Quirindi Showgrounds.
Running from 9am until 2pm, the day aims to bring the wider community together for an enjoyable day out and lend support to those who are doing it tough during the current dry times.
Quirindi Show Society President Lindsay Maybury said the traditional two-day agricultural show, planned for September 8 and 9, has been cancelled due to the drought, but A Piece of the Plains Markets and family fun day will run in its place.
Free family activities are still being confirmed, but are likely to include apple bobbing, three legged races, as well as egg and spoon races.
MOLONG SHOW
Molong will host their 154th annual show on Sunday, September 16.
All the favourite events will be held including judging off cattle, sheep, dairy goats, poultry and horse competitions.
The popular Yard Dog trials will be in action as well.
Other competitions include horticultural, Molong Showgirl, arts and crafts, jams and preserves and many more.
Troppo Bob, ‘The Ultranormalist’, has performed all over Australia and the world.
The one-man comedy magic act will delight young and old alike at this year’s Molong Show.
WEETHALLE SHOW
The 82nd annual Weethalle Show will be held on Sunday, August 19.
The annual agricultural show will feature horse events, poultry, sheep and wool, and pavilion displays of farm produce, flowers, photography, arts and crafts, cooking and schoolwork.
Opening the show is country music star, Adam Brand, who will also do cameo [performances as well as meet and greets.
Other attractions at the show include the tractor pull, home-brew competition, ute competition, bike decorating, machinery displays and stalls.
WEST WYALONG SHOW
The West Wyalong Show on Wednesday, September 5, promises to be a fun filled family day out with a designated pre-school area of free entertainment.
The show will feature the Young farmers Challenge, a shearing competition, Troppo Bob Magic and much much more.
There will also be horse, sheep and cattle competitions.
The Lowes Petroleum sponsored fireworks are sure to be a big hit.
PENRITH SHOW
The 175th annual Penrith Show will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 25 and 26.
There will be arts and crafts on display as well as ring events which will include a variety of horse events.
The Penrith Show fireworks display, starting at 7.30pm on Saturday, August 25, can be described as a ‘Fireworks Spectacular’ based on the previous years’ experience.
Other attractions include the Shannons Big Rig, the Sydney Brick Show, Steve McEwen’s Reptile World, dog high jump, a working dog demonstration plus much more.
SINGLETON SHOW
Preparations for the 2018 Singleton Show, on Friday and Saturday, September 21 and 22, are underway.
The Northern Agricultural Association have been able to arrange a big line up of exciting events and attractions for the 2018 Show.
The main events will kick off with the Bullride, followed by entertainment from Tailgate Drive. Saturday afternoon/evening is also not to be missed with many great events taking place in the main arena.
Running throughout the two days of the show, there will also be plenty for all ages to see and do along Sideshow Alley, thoughout the various pavilion displays, and animal competetions in the arena, along with the Working Dog Trials on Saturday morning.
The little ones shouldn't miss the displays from the Happy Tooth Reptiles and Oakvale Animal Nursery.
NARROMINE SHOW
Narromine Agricultural Show will be held on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1.
The show will feature the 2018 Macquarie Valley yard Dog Championships as part of the two day event.
other attractions include speed shearing, market stalls - a new component of the show for 2018- the band Legless Pedestrian playing late afternoon and into the evening, demolition derby and an animal nursery.
There will also be the usual pavilion exhibits, stock competitions, family entertainment, sideshow alley, and fireworks.
CANOWINDRA SHOW
Canowindra Show 2018 will be held on Friday and Saturday, September 21 and 22.
Heading the entertainment this year are The Crack Up Sisters who will perform their fun family act on both days.
There will be all the favourite pavilion exhibits, Sideshow Alley as well as the Canowindra Showgirl competition which is a great opportunity for rural women to advocate for the needs of their communities.
