Today three stud cattle breeders opened their gates as the focus of day five of the 2018 Ausmectin Southern Beef Week shifted to the Bathurst and Mudgee areas.
Breeds and studs on show included; Coffin Creek Angus at Mudgee, Llandillo Poll Herefords at The Lagoon near Bathurst, and Millah Murrah Angus at Bathurst.
The crowd around was understandable a bit back from previous years due to the drought and how busy people are, but that did not stop those wanting to inspect bulls and ask questions in the lead up to the stud’s on-property bull sales coming up in late August and early September.
Ross Thompson from Millah Murrah Angus, “Goonamurrah”, Bathurst, said it was a worthwhile day that was excellent for the bulls.
“The crowd was a little doen but reasonable given the season and people being busy at this time,” Mr Thompson said.
At Coffin Creek Angus, Mudgee, the White family’s sale offerings were described as very well presented from only being grass-fed.
Llandillo Poll Herefords at The Lagoon near Bathurst, said they had a good flow of people but were using the opportunity to open their gates to encourage producers, especially those in the local community, to drop by from a get together to have some time off-farm, to wind down for a little while and just take a break and catch up with people around them.
The event continues till August 5. Tomorrow the event heads into the Southern Highlands and Southern Tablelands region.
