Caloona Park stud principals Steve and Louie Franco have the most bulls in the sale, making up half the offering.
The Loomberah stud, which was established in 1990, has 20 bulls on offer, including seven by Caloona Park Hero, who is also the sire of one of the St Antonio bulls.
Hero was the 2014 Sydney Royal Easter Show champion bull and sired the 2017 Sydney Royal supreme Charolais exhibit and interbreed champion bull, Caloona Park Little Hero.
The Francos will also offer six bulls by polled red factor bull Airlie Farlane and five bulls by Caloona Park Gladiator, who has previously had sons making $9000 (2016) and $8000 (2017) in the Tamworth sale.
Louie Franco said the stud’s draft included meaty commercial bulls with plenty of softness.
“They’re good, functional cattle that are ready to go out and do the job, and they’ll produce steers off grass to meet the domestic and export markets,” Mr Franco said.
His pick of Caloona Park bulls were Caloona Park Ninja, an 18-month-old son of Nandillyan Peugeot and Caloona Park Kate; 21-month-old Caloona Park Mike, by Hero from Caloona Park Esther; and 23-month-old Caloona Park Manaro, another Hero son, from Caloona Park Genna.
“Ninja (lot 1) is a meat machine, Mike (lot 2) is another good carcase bull, and Manaro (lot 23) has good muscle pattern.”
