A bit of leg work on the part of Sam and Kirsty White from Bald Blair Angus stud Guyra, along with Elders stud stock agents delivered a plethora of Queensland buyers to the Bald Blair annual sale on Tuesday, but the top priced bull at $16,000 stayed in New South Wales.
Of the two year old bulls 56 out of 57 sold to an average of $7964 while 12 of 14 yearling bulls averaged $6250 to make a total sale average of $7661.
Top priced bull, the yearling lot 31 Bald Blair N47 by Ayrvale General G18 going back to Te Mania Berkley from a Bald Blair dam going back to Connealy Right Answer sold to the Laurie family, Knowla Livestock, Moppy via Gloucester.
“He’s come out of a solid program, his bloodline brings to us new genetics and the Whites have retained a share of the semen, which is a good recommendation for us,” explained James Laurie of his purchase.
The figures were inspiring to boot, with +3.7 for birthweight, +102 for 400 day growth, +145 for 600 days and + 24 for milk.
There were several volume buyers but Richard and Robyn Simmons, “Avon downs” Clermont, Qld took the prize with eight bulls to a top of $13,000 for Bald Blair Magnus M220 by Bald Blair Right Answer from a stud dam going back to Kenny’s Creek Regent.
The rising two year old presented with +97 400 day growth an a top 10 per cent +7.2 Eye Muscle Area. The Simmons will put their new Angus bulls to Santa Gertrudis and Brahman cows.
Top priced two year old bull, Bald Blair M140 by Ayrvale Bartel sold for $15,000 to the Murray family, Roma, who purchased a total of five bulls.
Pownall Grazing, Monto Qld, bought six bulls paying up to $12,000 for Bald Blair Magnus M56 by Bald Blair Right Answer.
Simon Wright from Wongwibinda Pastoral Company purchased Bald Blair Magnus M142 by Right Answer for $14,000 showing +2.9 for birthweight, +102 for 400 day growth, +22 for milk and +7.4 for EMA.
Ed and Tanya Moorhead, Ben Lomand, bought two bulls topping at $12,000 for Magnus M161 by Right Answer from a stud dam by Booroomooka Genius
Plumthorpe Pastoral, Barraba, bought two bulls to a top of $13,000 for Bald Blair M315 by Bald Blair Jim Jim.
