A strong Southern Cross Limousin sale at Moss Vale on Friday conducted by Jim Hindmarsh and Son, saw 13 bulls of the 16 offered sold for an average of $3250, with a gross of $45,500.
The top price paid was $5000 by Brad Nicholson, trading as Roundflat Partnership, of Captains Flat Rd, Braidwood, who bought the 790kg Deneen Mambo from vendor Max Rossi.
Mr Nicholson said he liked the conformation of the bull, with a strong back and black colour. He is creating a strong breed of cattle that is one-third Angus, one third Santa Gertrudis and one-third Limousin, giving him quicker growth rates and faster turn-off.
In trying times, where Braidwood has received just 200mm this year, Mr Nicholson was hoping for a good spring for his operation. He also bought another bull, New Day Vision M25, for $4000 from vendors Brett and Mirielle Turner. With his purchases it would be a case of “two bulls in, one bull out” at his farm.
Also at the sale, four females of the five offered were sold for an average of $2,700, gross of $10,800.
