Local buyers dominated the bidding at the sixth annual Pentire Angus bull sale at on August 11 at Singleton, with a top price of $9250 paid for a 23-month-old son of HF Prowler 43U.
The sale-topper was Pentire Mac Gyver M42, bought by Tollua Cattle Company, Warkworth near Singleton.
From Pentire Margret J40, it weighed in at 900 kilograms making it the heaviest bull in the sale. It’s estimated breeding values (EBVs) included a 91+ for 600 day and 12+ for milk.
With the drought biting harder by the day across eastern Australia, Pentire Angus stud principal Justin Richards, was pleased with the result and the support from local producers. All the bulls on offer were presented in outstanding condition despite the tough season.
Overall 19 bulls from a catalogue of 29 sold for a handy average of $5107.
Second top-priced bull, Pentire Mercedes M34, by Pathfinder Goldmark D189 will be heading just a few kilometres down the road having been bought by Richard Bailey, Greenlands. Mercedes sold for $7500 and had excellent EBVs for 60-day weight and EMA.
Mr Bailey also outlaid $6750 for Pentire Marble Bar M45, the second heaviest bull in the catalogue weighing 885kg at 22 months – a son of HF Prowler and like the highest priced bull was from a Pentire Caboodle dam.
Cameron Williams, Hebden near Singleton, bought two lots the first Pentire Makeshift M36, a Dunoon Highpoint H744 son for $6250, and the second the progeny of RB Tour of Duty 177 for $4000.
Neighbours D. and I. Bower paid $5250 for Pentire Munchie M40, a Dunoon Highpoint H744 son from Kenny’s Creek Patriot F492.
Rodney Hopkins, Cedar Valley Angus, Taree, paid $4000 for a yearling son of RB Tour of Duty 177 son Pentire Noosa N25 who weighed 580kg at 14 months.
Top-priced herd bull was bought by another neighbour, Jan Walsh, who paid $5000 for a Angus cross Shorthorn sire.
