Fifth time for Poll Boonoke with their 2018 success in the Elders Riverina ram of the year, ahead of entrant from Willandra, Jerilderie.
Judge Alan Dawson, Winyar stud, Canowindra thought the ram outstanding for his wool production and overall finish which gave him the nod over the second-placed ram.
“It was a tremendous lineup,” he said when commenting upon the Elders Riverina ram of the year.
“The champion has a great backend and good width, with constitution and neck extension.’
Mr Dawson further made comment on the ram’s tremendous width of chest and structural correctness.
Under judge Ben Prentice, Kurralea Poll Dorsets and White Suffolks, Ariah Park, the Riverina Performance ram of the year sponsored by Novartis was awarded to Suffolk ram exhibited by Gordon and Nicole Close, Closeup Suffolks, Finley.
Mr Prentice said the ram caught his eye as soon as he was paraded.
“He is structurally as he should be and I couldn’t justify bringing anything past him,” he said.
“He has lots of meat and a great topline … a very correct ram.”
Elders Riverina Merino ewe of the year was awarded to the Wells family, Willandra Merinos, Jerilderie.
Riverina performance ewe of the year sponsored by Novartis was awarded to Suffolk ewe exhibited by Gordon and Nicole Close, Closeup Suffolks, Finley.
Feature breed, proudly sponsored by SlingShot was the Merino and the winner was the young ram bred at Poll Boonoke, Conargo.
The blade shearing competition was won by Simon Coutts, Willera Merinos, Serpentine, Victoria.
Elders Northern Clip of the Year was awarded to the Nevinson family, “Spring Plains,” Wanganella.
