THIS year the Gilgandra Jockey Club along with the Gilgandra Lion’s Club organised a free raffle at the annual Collie Cup Meeting.
Each of the 1000-plus patrons had their names entered into the draw to win either a large bale of hay or one of the many bags of chaff that were all donated or purchased for the day by local businesses.
A request was made that if your name was drawn and you didn’t require the feed that it would be in turn passed onto someone else in attendance who was in need of a little bit of relief from the drought.
Another highlight of the meeting was the winter fashions in the field with Katheryn Alchin from Gilgandra and Christopher Budden from Dubbo named the best dressed filly and colt while Liliana Birchall from Mudgee and Mark Walker from Gilgandra were the best dressed lady and gent on course.
