A cracking pen of second-cross lambs has cracked $300 at Monday’s Dubbo sheep and lamb sale, setting a new record price for the selling centre.
Bids came in hard and fast as selling agent Peter Thomas, Landmark Milling Thomas, knocked them down to Thomas Foods International for $300 a head.
The pen of 81 second-cross Poll Dorset lambs were estimated to weigh 65 kilograms.
They were sold by Landmark Milling Thomas, on behalf of Daryl Dixon and family, Ashbank Poll Dorset stud, Dubbo.
Mr Thomas said it was the first time he had ever sold lambs for that price.
There was 26,000 head yarded at yesterday’s sale – one of the smallest yardings for some months.
Heavy weight lambs over 22kg sold from $210 to $300 a head - as much as $15 dearer on last week’s sale.
Other highlights of the sale include a trade weight, new season lambs selling to $83/hd and a draft of first-cross ewes sold at $200/head.
