SELECT females and new genetics were popular amongst buyers at the 4th annual Shorthorn Central Sale at Forbes on Tuesday.
Held on-property at Chindwarra, Forbes, the multi-vendor sale included quality animals from the Ronelle Park, Trojon, Southern Cross, Polldale, and Coonardoo Shorthorn studs.
All four female lots offered were sold to average $2750.
Two females made the top price of $3000. These included pregancy-tested-in-calf female Southern Cross Trojon Viola purchased by the Williams family and Katja Ingham, and Ronelle Park Jill, bought by Thomas Hotham, Blayney.
The opportunity to flush the Beef Australia 2018 grand champion Shorthorn female, Trojon Phyllis offered by Trent Johnstone, Trojon stud, was secured by an online buyer through AuctionsPlus for $4500.
By Ronelle Park Guns for Hire from Major Phyllis H04, the four-year-old female was renowned as a top-class breeder with progeny, including the 2018 Shorthorn National top-priced female who sold for $8000 to Liberty Shorthorns, Western Australia.
Trojon stud purchased Coonardoo’s pick of the M-drop females with calves at foot offering for $2500.
Bulls sold to a top of $9000, to average $4857.
The top-priced bull was Polldale Masterful offered by Kim and Elizabeth Williams and family from Polldale Shorthorn stud, Dubbo. It was purchased for $9000 by Peter Falls, South Burrabogie, Finley.
By Moombi Economy K05 from Polldale Marjory 56th, the two-year-old weighed in at 995 kilograms with a scrotal circumference of 40 centimetres and measurements of nine millimetres and 7mm in the rump and rib fat, and intramuscular fat (IMF) of 5.8 per cent.
Masterful had the highest eye muscle area (EMA) of the sale draft recording an EMA of 140sq cm.
Mr Falls purchased the bull for it’s correctness, softness, evenness and moderate growth pattern.
Moombi Shorthorns purchased a semen share in the bull straight after the sale.
Mr Falls also purchased 25-month-old Southern Cross Mercury Rising for $4000.
Second top-priced bull was Ross and Janelle Johnstone’s offering Ronelle Park Jack secured by Peter Tracey from Beehive Park, Tarana, for $5000.
The two-year-old weighed 866kg with an EMA of 126 sq cm, IMF of 7.4 per cent, fat scans of 16mm and 12mm in the rump and rib and a scrotal circumference of 38.5cm.
Trojon principal Trent Johnstone said the line up of bulls were high-quality, commercially focused bulls.
“Bulls were sold to return buyers from Roma, Queensland, from us going to Beef 2018 in Rockhampton,” he said.
Bowyer and Livermore conducted the sale with Nick Fogarty as the auctioneer.
