Local and return buyer support drove the Myanga Angus on-property bull sale to a top of $10,000 on three occasions at Chatsbury last Saturday.
All 36 bulls on offer sold to average $6,750 with progeny from standout sire DSK T410 Justify J29 represented in the top priced lots.
The first of the top-price bulls, Myanga Justify M65, was purchased by return buyer Alan McCormack, Walwa, Gurrundah.
The 24-month-old, 910 kilogram bull had a scrotal circumference of 42 centimetres and estimated breeding values (EBV) of +5.9 birthweight, 200-day weight of +58, 400-day weight of +104 and 600-day weight of +142.
“(He was) a very well balanced bull, plenty of growth, weight for age, an all over good bull with great temperament,” Mr McCormack said.
He also purchased Myanga Justify N20.
At just 15 months, the bull had a moderate birth with growth figures in the top five per cent for 200-, 400- and 600-day weight and an intramuscular fat figure of +2.1 per cent.
Myanga Justify N20 was selected as a heifer bull due to his low birth weight and great growth figures.
He said both bulls were sired by DSK T410 Justify J29.
“A great draft of bulls, very even line throughout the catalogue and the temperament is phenomenal,” he said.
“Our whole herd hold Myanga genetics.”
Myanga Justify N43 was purchased by John and Jackie McIntosh, Claremont Angus Stud, Laggen.
“Myanga Justify N43 is one of the heaviest in the younger bulls at 722 kilograms with scrotal circumference of 44.5 centimetres, very balanced EBVs, fantastic temperament and just sound all over,” Mr McIntosh said.
He also purchased the second top price heifer, Myanga Lady Kate N123, for $5000.
“(She was) an overall beautiful heifer with a great EMA of +8.7,” he said.
The strong support of return buyers led the volume purchases with Ian and Chris Stephenson, Wicklow Properties, Roslyn, putting together a line of nine bulls with John Palmer, Landmark, doing the bidding.
Mr Stephenson said they were looking to replace the older bulls throughout their commercial herd and knew they were purchasing quality bulls from the stud.
“We focused on low birth weight in the heifer bulls and the 400- to 600-day weight and sound feet to adapt to our red dirt country in the older bulls,” Mr Stephenson said.
Volume buyers also included MHPF Watson Park, Goulburn, who put together a line of four bulls averaging $4125.
Top priced heifer was purchased by GO Angus, Crookwell, for $8500.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Landmark with Tim Woodham as auctioneer.
