BEEF producers from four states were among successful buyers paying up to $16,000 and a $6560 average for Royalla Shorthorn bulls at Yeoval last Friday.
Twenty-five of 34 bulls cleared at auction with another three selling post sale while semen straws and embryos were also sold to Queensland, NSW, Victorian and Tasmanian buyers, many being returning clients of Neilson, Sue and Nic Job of Royalla stud.
Not mincing things, Terra Shorthorn stud principal, Terry Williams, Dubbo, bid all the way to buy the $16,000 top-priced Royalla Tsar, the first bull of the offering.
This 24 month-old red son of Royalla Ostentatious G404 weighing 892 kilograms with a 126 square centimetre eye muscle area (EMA) is from the Futurity Fully Loaded daughter, Royalla Melody J249, a seventh generation from the foundation Melody purchased at the Mandalong dispersal.
Mr Williams said Tsar was a complete stud sire with overal balance and size, and plenty of eye appeal.
“He has that real deep red colour, and when you see a good red bull like this, you’ve got to buy him,” Mr Williams said.
“This bull could be used over a wide range of female types, he’s so versatile, He has ideal fat cover and we’ll use him to breed some bulls for within the Terra herd.”
Two bulls sold at $12,000 each with the Bowman brothers, Jim and Rodney, joining forces to secure two bulls averaging $8500 including one at that equal second top money for the Merotherie and Meruthera herds at Dunedoo.
Their top was Royalla Tarantino M251, the heaviest bull in the sale at 916kg and by Fully Loaded. They also paid $5000 for a son of Royalla Nostalgia.
Returning to buy five bulls for a $6400 average and top at $12,000 was Kerrod Pierce and his sister, Merri-Lea, fifth generations of Saltmarsh Pocket Grazing, on the Fitzroy River outside Rockhampton, Qld, who began crossing Shorthorns with Brahmans in 1988 and now join 6500 females to produce weaners for Brisbane Valley operators.
Their top bull was Royalla Toro Rosso M256 by Futurity Fully Loaded, weighing 870kg with estimated breeding values (EBVs in top one per cent for domestic and northern maternal and 5pc for export maternal traits.
New buyers, Dave Krienke, Gowrie Junction, near Toowooba, Qld, with hsi sister, Julie dear, Tamworth, paid $5000 for a Sprys Junction son weighing 864kg to join with his Gelvieh/Limousin-cross herd.
Another returning buyer, John and Nancy Bell of Sillwood stud, Carrick, Tasmania, bought two bulls to average $6500 and topping at $9000 for Royalla Theo M196 by The Weebollabolla Theodore sired Royalla Qantas weighing 846kg.
With a commercial focus wthin his stud herd, Mr Bell joins 300 breeders and sells most steers as stores to grassfed northern Tasmanian fatteners for the Swift or Greenham abattoirs grassfed programs.
The Bells also run 7000 Merinos lately of Glenlea Park blood, joining 3500 all growing 18.5 to 19.5 micron wool in 700 millimetre average rainfall country.
Gunnawarra Cattle Pty Ltd, “Yoorooga”, Yeoval, paid $250 each for 10 semen straws from Beef 2018 Rockhampton grand champion Shorthorn, Royalla Trigger M246 while Chris Hall, Warraberry stud, Parkes, bought 20 straws at $190 each.
Four embryos from the mating of Royalla Margies Memory J177 sold with Ross Gange, Farquharson Pty Ltd, Shepparton, Vic, paying $1400 each for two by Royalla Rockstar while the Woodiwiss family, Sunnyside, Tas, paid $1300 each for two by Royalls Trigger.
The sale was conducted by Elders, Dubbo, and Davidson Cameron and Company, Guyra, with Brian Kennedy, Elders the auctioneer.
