The 13th annual Kanimbla Poll Hereford bull and female sale last week met solid inquiry from a gallery of southern buyers as some recent rain started to set them up for a spring.
The sale reached a high of $8000, with 23 of the 39 bulls offered averaging $4717, while 11 heifers of the 14 offered, averaged $2409 and topped at $4000.
Kanimbla stud co-principal James McWilliam, Holbrook, said he had sold a further five bulls and all the remaining heifers after sale.
Repeat client Robert Ward, Oberon, paid the top money of $8,000 for Kanimbla Manitoba M097 who was a 24-month-old homozygous polled son of Mawarra Manitoba J051 out of Kanimbla Joybelle J114.
Property manager Robert Ward bought on behalf of John and Christine Kelleher, Oberon.
Kanimbla Manitoba M097 was one of the highest performing bulls in his contemporary group and scanned well with his birth weight at +5.1, growth figures for 200 of +36, 400 of +54 and 600 of +77 and an eye muscle area (EMA) of +4.9.
The second top price bull Kanimbla Manitoba M114, was also a 23-month-old son of Mawarra Manitoba J051, homozygous polled with plenty of extension and carcase, tipping the scales at 798 kilograms with a 38 centimetre scrotal circumference.
The bull was purchased by Bayrook Pastoral Company, Gelantipy, Victoria, who also secured a second Manitoba son for $4000.
Kanimbla Regulator M025, by Days Carbine J141, sold to AuctionsPlus for $6000, with strong cacase numbers to +4.8 EMA, +1.0 and +1.4 respectively for rib and rump, backed with a low birth weight of +3.6.
Later in the sale Kanimbla New Design M125, a 24-month-old son going back to Koanui Safety 8557 also sold for $6000 to Strathvale Pastoral Company, Wondalga, with great growth figures from +41 for 200 day growth through to +112 for 600 day growth and a scrotal size of +4.1 at 44cm, while weighing 908kg.
Leading the charge on the heifers was Kanimbla Marinda N044, by Days Carbine J141, who was purchased by Aintreee Farm, Terip Terip, Vic, for $4000, in their draft of six heifers averaging $2667.
They also purchased the equal top price heifer Kanimbla Revona N124, by Days Fleetwood K185 for $4000, who showed a strong breeding outlook.
Volume buyers including Kaloomah Herefords, Gobur, Vic, who purchased three bulls at $4000 each, Courabyra Estate, Tumbarumba, averaged two at $4500 and the Lewington family, Uranqunity, had two at $4000 average.
