As a stud prefix, the name “Birubi” needs no introduction to beef cattle aficionados, especially those of Limousin breeding persuasion, given the Wagga Wagga-based stud’s pre-eminence in that field.
At the Sydney Royal Show earlier this year a bull from the Tynan family’s Birubi stud was judged grand champion and best Limousin exhibit, while other wins helped Birubi end the day as most successful exhibitor.
Now the property that has underpinned the stud’s prodigious show and sale successes since 2005 is itself hitting the market, providing a rare vacancy in the eastern Riverina’s pastoral “dress circle”.
Birubi stud was established in the early 1990s by successful Sydney car dealer Michael Tynan and his wife Annette, first with Limousin genetics, and later, Angus.
More recently the stud has joined the Lim-Flex program initiated in North America, breeding hybrid Limousin/Angus bulls for commercial crossbreeders.
In 1998 the Tynans bought a small property near Crookwell they named “Birubi” as a new home for the stud, thus consolidating an operation which had previously been spread between two locations.
But by 2005 it was apparent from the growth and success of the stud and the associated commercial herd that more land was needed.
So they “traded-in” their Crookwell property on the larger “Weeroona” near Wagga Wagga, which in turn was renamed “Birubi”.
Situated on the Sturt Highway just 33 kilometres east of Wagga Wagga, the 432 hectare (1068ac) “Birubi” is a choice parcel of mixed farming country, rising of yellow box flats to gentle slopes of red and sandy loam.
In 2009 the Tynans felt a need for further expansion and purchased the 268ha (664ac) “Lone Pine” near Tarcutta, which is managed in conjunction with “Birubi”.
Since Michael Tynan’s death in early 2016 at the age of 80, his wife Annette has continued to run the properties, which have been ably managed since 1996 by Glenn and Susie Trout.
But now Mrs Tynan is bowing out, and both “Birubi” and “Lone Pine” have been listed for October 23 auction.
The property has been listed with David Nolan of Webster Nolan Real Estate, Sydney, and Bob Wheeler of RLA Rural Property in Wagga Wagga.
The property sales will be followed by an on-site dispersal sale of the stud cattle on November 10.
Although now set up for stud and commercial cattle, “Birubi” is equally well suited to sheep and cropping, while its strategic main-road location makes it also an ideal site for a horse stud.
The property is watered by two bores reticulating to tanks and troughs, and is sown down to high-performance pastures and winter crops, regularly topdressed.
Working improvements include a covered steel cattle barn with Prattley yards, sale ring, display pens, vet crush, circular draft and attached office and laboratory.
A feature of “Birubi” is its four-bedroom Federation homestead, built originally of pise on an elevated site in about 1903 and sympathetically renovated by the Tynans.
Carrying capacity of “Birubi” is estimated at 200 cows and calves plus replacements, and “Lone Pine” at 100 breeders plus replacements.
“Lone Pine” has alluvial creek flats and a mix of introduced and native pastures and comes with a three-bedroom cottage, cattle yards and shearing shed.
