A commitment to raising easy care sheep yet still produce quality lambs for the domestic and export trade underpinned the 9th Australian White sale at Narrandera on account the Tattykeel stud, Oberon and the Camden Valley stud, Camden.
Respective studmasters Graham Gilmore and Josh Clinton presented an excellent lineup of sheep.
The Tattykeel stud sold 57 rams from 63 offered for average price $1869.49; while the Camden Valley stud sold six rams of the seven penned for average $916.66 and ten ewes to $1500.
Top price was $3,000 paid by Barbara Tozer, Cootamundra and Timothy Farr, Savernake for their respective selections from the Tattykeel draft.
In the Camden Valley draft a top price of $1500 was realised.
Volume buyer Michael Madden, Urana has been purchasing Aussie White rams for past six years and has established a self-replacing flock.
“They are easy care sheep and tough sheep,” he said.
“They do better in dry times than some other breeds and it has been shown this year.”
Mr Madden sells his lambs through the saleyards in Wagga Wagga, with the most recent sale being 20 lambs April/May drop making $192.
“They were weaned onto grazing wheat and then lucerne pasture with some barley supplement,” he said.
Mr Gilmore said it was a great sale, especially through these tough times.
“We had repeat buyers with some new faces and I put up a good selection of rams,” he said.
Mr Clinton was also please with his sale result.
“The ewes sold really well … they were a good line of ewes,” he said.
“Although we didn’t have many rams, they sold to expectation to repeat buyers.”
Mr Clinton noted his clients are pleased with the performance of the Aussie White progeny.
The sale was settled by QPL Temora, with Craig Pellow assisting auctioneer Michael Glasser, Glasser Total sales Management.
