RICHARD and Sandra Retallack of Glengowan Angus, Newbridge, breathed a sigh of relief after their offering of 35 Angus bulls were well received by buyers last Thursday afternoon.
A solid following of repeat buyers did not disappoint the stud’s principals as all but three sold, and another sale was negotiated post-auction.
Glengowan Mighty M177, an offspring of ASHH46 Premier Braveheart and from NGGE128 Glengowan Moonlight attracted the top price, selling for $7000.
But a solid receipt of bulls with a bias towards homegrown and New Zealand genetics brought the average price of the 2018 offering to $3485. All buyers were convinced of their grassfed constitution and doing ability.
Lawndock P/L was a volume buyer, taking home 12 bulls for between $3000 and $4000 to its home base of Chinchilla, Queensland.
Another buyer, Anthony Ledger, Yass, said he’d attended with the hope of snaring two bulls, but went home with three, citing competitive prices for quality genetics as his reason for upping the ante.
Other bulls headed to commercial breeding operations around Bombala, others were snatched up by buyers from Binnaway.
Glengowan principal Richard Retallack watched over the sale as the best line of bulls he reckons he’s ever managed to breed sold for an average $1200 less than 2017, but he was relieved to see them sell. “There were buyers from the Victorian border to Queensland, so you’ve got to be happy with that.”
