COWS with calves sold to a top of $1600 a unit at the Maitland store cattle sale last Saturday.
Bowe and Lidbury agent Rodney McDonald said the yarding of 600 head was fair considering the time of year. He said the market trend was also very good.
“Cows with calves and steers sold to a dearer trend, when compared to the last sale, and all the cattle stayed in the local area,” he said.
Weaner steers sold from $260 to $800 a head and most averaged about the $500 mark.
The weaner heifers started at $200 for some very young lines, but bidding climbed as high as $1040 for a top quality older pen.
Yearling steers ranged from $650 to $1160, while grown steers sold from $800 to $1170.
Two-year-old, pregnancy-tested-in-calf heifers sold for $910, and the older PTIC cows sold for $1170.
Most of the joined females averaged $900, but sold as high as $1180.
The cows with calves sold from $600 to $1600 and averaged $1228 a unit.
