Visiting the Henty Farm Machinery Field days was Aimee Snowden, originator of Lego® Farmer and the little toy created a lot of interest.
Raising the profile of farming is the challenge Ms Snowden has set herself, and pleasingly, her concept has a lot of followers around the country and around the world.
Ms Snowden is using her various social media outlets to promote the importance of agriculture to an audience which has little to no contact with the source of their food.
“About four years ago I started Lego® Farmer,” she said.
“I had seen Lego® photography online … and thought, why not?”
The Lego® Farmer is a mini-figure created to represent farmers in Australia and around the world.
Ms Snowden has chosen the The Lego® peices carefully, knowing the iconic but stereo-typed image many have of a farmer.
The idea of taking photographs of Lego® Farmer performing everyday farming tasks was novel, and the response has been incredibly positive.
“I thought it would be a bit of fun and I thought if people got a bit of a laugh out of some light humour, it would be great,” Ms Snowden said.
After only a few months of exposure, Ms Snowden noted some momentum in appreciation of The Lego® Farmer, especially as a medium for education.
“I realised I could use it in a positive way and I am now working in that direction,” she said.
Ms Snowden has a farming background, having grown up on the family farm near Tocumwal, and it was natural to turn her interest toward promoting agriculture.
“I wanted to start a conversation celebrating Australian agriculture, and showcase the diversity of careers in agriculture,” she said.
