The solid results of the ram selling season continued at the West Plains Poll Merino Riverina ram sale held at Wattle Park, Finley.
The Chapman family’s Poll Merino rams were in strong demand with a number of buyers unable to fulfil their orders.
A complete clearance of the 33 rams was recorded selling to a top of $3800 for an average price of $2157 across the offering.
The top money was paid for a Warrior son who was a late replacement in the catalogue finding stud duties at Kim and Robyn Cartwright’s Fullerton Merino Stud, Laggan.
He weighed in at 100 kilograms measuring 17.5 micron with a standard deviation of 3.2, a coefficient of variation of 18.8, and a comfort factor of 99.5 per cent.
Being West Plains and Hinesville clients of 10 years Mrs Cartwright commented on the genetics ability to do well in cold tough environments, and the rich white wools that carry terrific nourishment.
Mr Cartwright said he selected the top price ram for his terrific long crimpy wool and great tip.
The Cartwright's purchased a second ram for $2600.
Other stud purchases included a son of Smuggler purchased by Doug Walker of Wongara Poll Merino Stud, Junee, for $2800.
Volume purchasers on the day were the Farrant family, Calimo, Deniliquin, who bought eight rams for a $2225 average.
