Most of the state will get some rain in the next three days, with the heaviest falls likely to be in the lower central-west, central tablelands and south-west slopes areas.
The first rain will start early tomorrow in the Far West around Wilcannia and the rain band will move east but there is not expected to be much more than 5mm. A second rain event will occur later in the day as a trough moves over the state which will bring more substantial rain to some parts of the state, according to Weatherzone.
The best falls during Thursday and into Friday morning are likely to be in the Young, Orange, Cowra and Portland areas.
There is some variance in weather rain models though, and a low forming over the state on Wednesday could help bring much more substantial falls as it moves slowly towards the coast, Weatherzone forecaster Tom Hough said.
“There is a lot of variance in the models but basically on Wednesday there will be falls of between 1-5mm in western and central areas, with isolated areas getting 10-15mm,” he said.
“It will be a bigger day on Thursday with some areas getting 10-20mm, with isolated places such as Orange, Young, Cowra and Portland getting possibly between 40-50mm.”
The Hunter will get a sprinkling on Wednesday but possible totals of up to 15mm on Thursday, with more on Friday.
ABC was reporting some areas may get half their average October rainfall. The rain will contract east and north-east over Friday and moist easterly winds will be fed into the system by a combination of a high and the low.
