Get prepared for this bushfire season

The Bushfire and Natural Hazards Co-operative Research Centre (CRC) has issued the seasonal forecast, noting that the ongoing drought conditions continue to dry out pastoral areas along the east coast nominating from Victoria to the Queensland border as having ‘above normal fire potential this fire season’.

Landowners of long standing know that being prepared for a fire outbreak is as important as good pre-season property management, protecting areas where possible for livestock.

Having the water resources and equipment ready as a first response or for clean up after a fire front has passed is equally important.

“In previous high danger seasons, we have seen property owners and managers leave it until a fire is virtually at their boundary before rushing to their local supplier, only to find that there are no equipment stocks left,” he said.

“We advise that for a relatively modest investment the appropriate equipment can be held ready to assist in quelling the smallest fire outbreak, or for protection of homes, buildings and fences once a fire alert is raised.
