A STRONG crowd of buyers from New South Wales and Victoria flocked to the Harper family’s 43rd annual Cadell Border Leicester Stud Sale held at Ariah Park last Friday.
A total of 35 registered bidders were on hand to clear 24 stud ram offerings for an average of $2958 and a top of $7000 to Jeff Sutton of Wattle Farm, Temora.
Another 96 flock rams were also sold to average $1238.
Other highlights of the Border Leicester sale included a $5500 ram purchase for Reg and Robyn Sweeney of Bindaree stud at Merrygoen while Glenleigh Pastoral Company, Eugowra, took home two high priced rams at $5000 and $3000.
Darryl Hall of Raywil stud, Swan Hill, also paid above the average price to secure a ram for $4500.
The high prices were equally matched in bulk buying too with Col Durnan, Frying Pan Creek, Narrandera, securing 18 rams topping at $1200.
Local Ariah Park buyer Col Harper took home 15 rams from the sale to a top of $1900 while repeat clients Noel and Peter Wilson, Ungarie, were right behind him with 14 purchases topping at $1700.
Alan Gadsby and his son Tom of Euchareena took home a total of 13 rams to a top of $3000.
The Harper family were very pleased with the result, considering the current seasonal conditions.
The stud ram average was only slightly back on last year’s $3050 mark, with the top price a $2000 rise on 2017.
The Cadell Border Leicester Stud Sale was conducted by Elders and Landmark, Wagga Wagga.
