A young ram sold for $3250 during the 5th annual spring sale on account Jamie and Tracey Buerckner, Bauer Border Leicesters, Ariah Park, when 42 rams from 59 offered averaged $941.
The top price was an increase of $600 on last year, and although the clearance was back, Mr Buerckner was philosophical about the sale result.
“Considering the season, I was very happy,” he said.
“It was very exciting to sell four stud rams, indicating buyers are looking for quality.”
Mr Buerckner expressed delight in the support from return clients and, although they only purchased restricted drafts due to the season, they showed confidence in the first-cross ewe industry.
Born as a single and weighing 114kg, the top priced ram attracted the attention of Sarah Evans, Saree Border Leicester stud, Berridale, for his correct conformation and sirey outlook when viewed on AuctionsPlus.
“I’ve always liked the look of Jamie’s rams and this ram has a nice heavy carcass,” she said. “And I liked his depth and length.”
Another excellent sale was made when Moray Pastoral Co, Yerong Creek, paid $2325 for their choice of the stud rams, included in their purchase of four rams for an average price $1287.
Return clients, R.T McClure, Harrow, Victoria, selected six rams at $837 average, while the Tulagi Border Leicester stud, Deniliquin, purchased two stud rams at $1500 and $1100.
The auction was interfaced with all rams assessed by James Croker, Landmark Wagga Wagga.
