CONTINUING their strong association with Teys, trucking cattle in and out of the Jindalee Feedlot and throughout Australia on a daily basis, Shanahans Livestock Transport again collected cattle for the NSW Beef Spectacular Feedback Trial on August 28 and 29.

This year cattle were collected from as far south as Kyneton, Victoria, up to Dubbo in the state’s central west. For the first time no cattle were collected from northern NSW due to the tough season affecting cattle producers.

Back on board for the fourth year, Shanahan’s owner, Dominic Shanahan, said they continue sponsorship to maintain and strengthen client relationships.

“Being involved helps us strengthen the relationships we have formed with Teys and our customers,” Mr Shanahan said.

“We get the odd new client from from it, but involvement goes hand-in-hand with what we do on a daily basis.”

Mr Shanahan said from speaking with some of his customers that send cattle into the trial, they are happy with what they get back from being involved.

“The feedback you get as a producer, you wouldn’t get anywhere else,” he said.

“I have noticed a lot of studs are entering progeny into the trial to get feedback on their sires to help with their breeding program and marketing.”

With the drought this year Mr Shanahan said he noticed the company was busier through the middle of the year, with a rush of cattle moving out of NSW.

“A lot of people were selling stock in the middle of the year but it has slowed as producers have sold their excess and chosen to keep what they have left,” he said.

“As the season has tightened up through Victoria, southern buyers have backed off buying a lot of cattle and trucking them south due to the sense of the season closing in.”

Shanahans Transport operates out of two main depots located in Wodonga, Vic, and Toowoomba, Qld.
