TOP quality working dogs to suit sheep and cattle work will be offered for sale in the seventh annual rma Working Stock Dog Auction at Glen Innes on November 17.
The northern NSW sale has become the state’s premier dog auction, attracting quality dogs and trainers, as well as buyers from five states in previous years.
The 2018 sale catalogue features 42 dogs from vendors in NSW and Queensland, with a good mix of sheep and cattle dogs, as well as dual-purpose dogs, that are all ready to go to work, according to organising agent Shad Bailey, Colin Say and Company, Glen Innes.

“We have very few young dogs this year, with only a few under 12 months of age,” he said.
“The majority of dogs are 18 months or older, because we concentrate on dogs that are ready to go home and do a job for the purchaser.
“The $2500 vendor trial incentive attracts those better dogs, so we have repeat vendors, but we’ve also attracted a lot of new vendors especially from the coastal areas and down through the Hunter Valley.”

Mr Bailey said there was good interest from prospective buyers, with demand coming from across the country.
“We’re always getting phone calls from repeat buyers requesting information,” he said.
“With the success from recent years, we’ve proven that this sale can compete in the market.
“We can achieve the high prices because we’re attracting a better calibre of dogs.”
Last year’s sale reached a high of $9250 and achieved a record average of $4588.
The top dog was Kanika Echo, bred and trained by Sam Gates, "East Mihi", Uralla, which sold to a buyer from Walgett.
Buyers will have the opportunity to view the dogs in action prior to the sale, with vendor trials for sheep and cattle dogs.
There are also open events for trainers that aren’t vendors, with the open sheep and cattle trials beginning at 8am on Friday, November 16.
The vendor trials will be held over both days, and the sale dogs will also be on show with demonstrations to be held from 9am on sale day, before the sale at 1.30pm.
Information and videos of each dog will also be available on AuctionsPlus from the end of this week, with the auction to open 10 days before the sale.
The lot videos can also be viewed on the Colin Say and Company and rma network websites.
“In previous years, dogs have already been on the market before the auction,” Mr Bailey said.
“We have dogs to suit all needs and all budgets – they can buy a really good quality dog for $3000 to $4000.
“The online catalogue also gives buyers a bit of time to look at their budgets, and work out which dogs they’re looking to bid on.”
