Champagne opened the sale and the good times flowed throughout the two-day Anvil Angus dispersal sale held on property at Acheron, Victoria.
Angus Australia President Brad Gilmour, Terang, fittingly opened the Anvil Angus dispersal sale by blessing the sale ring with champagne.
The good times did not stop there with a number of happy buyers operating throughout the sale.
Anvil Angus principal Stephen Handbury summed it up perfectly when he said there was plenty of good buying for everyone.
“The donor females were well received and sold well, with the Lowan donor cow knocking it out of the park,” he said.
That she did Anvil Lowan H126 sold to a partnership of Banquet Angus, Mortlake, and Bannaby Angus, Taralga, NSW, for the top price of $52,000.
The cow described a “prolific embryo producer” was sired by imported embryo from Sitz Angus Anvil Endless E160 and out of a foundation Te Mania Lowan Y147.
Lowan H126 sold with all 21 embryos previously collected and no yet implanted as did all the donor females on offer and her July born heifer calf by Black Aqua Lucifer.
Leading the charge on day two donor cow Anvil Ella H036 sold for $35,000 to Spring Hill Angus, Woodlands, NSW.
Other donor females demanding a hefty price tag included;
Anvil Vitality D019 who sold to the same partnership of Banquet and Bannaby Angus for $15,000 and Anvil Lowan G072 who was purchased by a partnership of Merridale Angus, Tennyson, and Crawford Angus, Adjungbilly, NSW, for $14,500.
Banquet Angus principal Stephen Branson said he attended the Anvil Angus dispersal with the goal of securing three key cow families.
“Firstly the Lowan family, that stem from Te Mania Y147, we thought that Anvil Lowan H126 who is sired by Anvil Endless E160 inspected as the best daughter of Y147, we have used a maternal brother to Lowan H126 and are excited to see the impact she will have in both the Banquet and Bannaby herds”.
“We were lucky enough to also partner with Bannaby on Anvil Vitality D019 a top daughter of Robonbel Vitality V31, sired by the popular Hingaia 469”.
“Finally, the famous North American Emblynette cow family, which we were able to secure in Anvil Emblynette E199 an old cow with a top heifer calf at side we admire for her maternal strength,” Mr Branson said.
There was plenty of excitement amongst the yearling heifers with Anvil Jilt N411 a daughter of S A V Recharge selling on day one to East West Angus, Bingara, NSW, for $17,500.
East West manager Connor Ryan, was excited to secure Anvil Jilt N411 mentioning that she will fit very well with the direction of the East West program.
“We feel she was a clear stand out in the yearling heifers, and really appreciate her meat, capacity and weight”.
“She will suit our focus and direction on breeding cattle suited to the grainfed market,” Mr Ryan said.
However, this was outdone on day two when a daughter of the $52,000 sale topper, Anvil Lowan N396 sired by Ellingson Identity 9104 sold to Adameluca Angus, Kyneton, for $21,000.
Adameluca also partnered up with Ardrossan Angus, Holbrook, NSW, to purchase a full sister to the $17,500 heifer from day one in Anvil Jilt N436 for $18,000.
Contining in the same fashion Adameluca also purchased an embryo transfer heifer calf Anvil Lowan P456 out of Anvil Lowan G072 and sired by WK Replay sold on her recipient mother for $10,500.
Mr Handbury added further comment saying it was thrilling to see some special heifers sell particularly well.
“There was ample opportunity for buyers at every price point to operate with a number of new Angus breeders operating as well as some bigger producers putting together large numbers of cattle,” Mr Handbury said.
“It has been extremely humbling to see the who’s who of the Angus breed attend and operate on our cattle” Mr Handbury concluded.
Amongst the volume buyers;
Palgrove Pastoral put together a draft of 57 females for a $3851 average with Palgrove genetics manager Ben Noller taking advantage of an opportunity to increase the top end of the Palgrove seedstock herd.
“Stephen’s passion for Angus cattle and the amount of time and effort applied to the cow herd shows through in the quality of the offering”.
“We have been able to put together a draft of clean skinned maternal type cows with plenty of volume,” Mr Noller said.
