There’s a massive demand for for young people to enter the horticulture industry.

According to NSW Agrifood ITAB executive officer, Melissa Worton, nursery, landscape and arboriculture industry employers are seeking high school students to take on trainee and apprenticeship positions.

The demand and interest by potential employers is so great the industry is sponsoring an Amenity Horticulture Showcase Day west of Sydney on Wednesday, November, 28.

Ms Worton said response from students, particularly Year 10 from dozens of schools in the Sydney region had been very encouraging.

“The day is an opportunity for interested students to gain leads to work experience or employment,” Ms Worton said.

“The showcase at Andreasen’s Nursery, Kemps Creek, is all about encouraging young people to do school-based traineeships and/or apprenticeships in horticultural industries and there is a lot of interest from large employers.”
