Young rural property agent, George Southwell, can’t understand why more people don’t live in Boorowa. So he’s filmed a video to challenge city-siders to consider it.
Looking at lifestyle, cost and house prices, he has posted a ‘research’ video today, ahead of the auction (December 15 onsite) of a sprawling five-bed, three-bath home called ‘Cotton Wood Grove’ in the town.
“Boorowa is a fantastic town on the NSW south west slopes, with a population of only 1200 or so. I get the allure of country kids heading to the city, but I thought we should compare the pair, as they say,” he said.
The video is titled ‘Boorowa versus Bondi’.
“Just recently, I’ve had some mates try to convince me that I should try life in the city, in Bondi. So today in I’m a field trip to do some research,” the Ray White Canberra Yass real estate agent says at the start of the video.
He starts out comparing swimming holes; first the lush grassy banks of the Boorowa River on a sunny day without a neighbour insight. The video then cuts to a cloudy day at Bondi were signpost threaten currents and his rural attire attracts confused looks from backpackers.
George heads to the Boorowa grocery store, where the friendly check-out assistant Lilly carries his purchases. He has a cup of tea at a nearby coffee shop where the waitress knows his name. He orders a beer for $5 at the local pub; considerably cheaper compared to the $11 schooner he orders in Sydney.
His rudimentary research leads viewers to 50-58 Dillion St, Boorowa, due for auction this Saturday. The modern brick veneer steel framed 2007 home with separate self contained granny flat set amongst established garden on 2.64acres.
“Located on outskirts of Boorowa, you’re less than an hour-and-a-half from Canberra and only 30 minutes from Yass,” he said.
“The manicured garden is broken into many ‘rooms’ featuring established trees, there’s a fish pond, a Gum Tree forest, pergola, established orchard, expansive parkland style lawns, greenhouse, irrigated by micro sprinkler system and drippers as well as a BBQ area.
The property has elaborate dog yards and a chook house, and a granny flat.”
The home he is marketing has a price guide of $710,000 to $745,000. “If you wanted anything like this in terms of style, space and features, you’d be up for millions upon millions in Bondi,” he said.
This isn’t the first time George Southwell has used a quirky video to market a property. Late last year, he did a ‘five reasons not to buy’ for ‘Crystal View’ in Bombala.
It sold within a week of the video going online.
