Narranderra locals the Quilter family from Quilter Nominees, Belalie, sold 102 Angus steers and 12 Angus heifers today at the Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange (NVLX).
Annually selling through the Angus grown and weaners sale, the cattle were sold during day two through Brian Unthank Rural (BUR).
The Quilter’s August-weaned, European Union (EU) eligible cattle were of Dunoon bloodlines, nine to 10-month-old and ranged in weight from 215 to 285 kilograms.
Mark Quilter said the season at Narranderra had been “miserable”, so calves were early weaned.
“They were running on nothing this season so the weights were back,” Mr Quilter said.
“We got rid of some of the older cows, and dropped back from the usual 350 to 400 breeders we were running to 250 head of Autumn calvers.”
A pen of 20 Angus steers weighing 285kg made $940 per head, while the Quilter’s pen of 12 nine to 12-month-old heifers sold for $370 per head.
The Quilter’s steer prices ranged from $655 to $940 per head across the five pens offered, with some headed to Keith, South Australia.
