More than 2500 racegoers descended on the small town of Trangie for the annual Macquarie Picnic Races to see Nyngan trainer, Rodney Robb and Inverell-based jockey Ridge Wilson combined to win four of the day’s six races.
However it was Jody Hughes, who travelled from Canberra for the day, that was aboard the Rodney Robb-trained Huang Zhong in the feature race, The Three Rivers Machinery Macquarie Picnic Cup over 1400m.
The four-year-old bay gelding is owned by Hunter Valley publication Wayne Brown, who this year has offered to have the club’s perpetual trophy restored to it to its former glory.
Taylor Traecey, from Batemans Bay, and Natalie Lambeth, from Tamworth, were named the best-dressed fillies while Jen Browning from “Alloway”, Collie, was the judges’ pick for the best dressed lady.
A $300 Dan Murphys gift card was a welcome surprise for this year’s best dressed gent, Peter Wilson, from “Yarraman”, Trangie.
