Brian Unthank Rural, Albury, agent Gerard Ryan and family from Mullengandra, offered their last 180 weaners during the Wodonga weaner sales last Friday at Northern Victoria Livestock Exchange (NVLX).
Prior to selling their property in 2018, the Ryans were running 200 breeders and were consistently using Ardrossan Angus bloodlines.
“We offered 180 head today, about half steers and half heifers. They are the last of the weaners,” Mr Ryan said.
“The season has been ordinary. It has impacted the weights but not too badly.
“We still have got the cows to sell.”
Mr Ryan sold 83 heifers from both spring and autumn calving periods and ranging in weights from 210 to 281 kilograms liveweight.
“The autumn calves were weaned prior to sale, the spring calves were straight off mum,” he said.
Sixteen autumn-drop nine to 10-month-old heifers weighing on average 281kg sold for $760 a head while the remaining 13 autumn heifer calves weighing 239kg sold for $560/hd.
A pen of the 30 spring-drop five to six-month-old Angus heifers weighing 210kg on average sold for $600 a head.
The Ryans also sold 97 Angus steers which sold well making from $655 to $950.
