Following a tough 2018, and with drought conditions continuing into 2019, now more than ever all sides of politics must commit to ensuring the state’s agriculture industry thrives. Not just to secure our $17.5 billion sector, but to help NSW remain the largest economy in Australia.
NSW Farmers has identified 15 top priorities to ensure this happens.
We believe the keys to a profitable and sustainable farming sector in New South Wales are commitments that will:
- Improve the farm business environment and prioritise the Right to Farm,
- Invest to improve infrastructure and connectivity, and
- Deliver regional food hubs and effective supply chains
The national agricultural production target is to reach $100 billion by 2030. This can only be achieved if there’s a firm focus on ag as a key pillar of the state’s economy. When primary industries do well, our communities benefit.
The association is regularly meeting with politicians on Macquarie Street, advocating for the farmers of NSW, but in the lead up to the March election, we want our pollies to get out to the regions and meet the people growing the state’s food and fibre.
That’s why we’re giving our members the opportunity to come face-to-face with ministers and shadow ministers at a number of issues specific pre-election forums we will be hosting in coming weeks.
NSW Farmers branches are also organising local ‘meet the candidate’ forums so farmers have the opportunity to ask them what their priorities are for their electorates before polls open on March 23.
