New Year’s Day was day one of the Gilgandra Jockey Club’s Summer Racing Carnival.
The feature race for the day, the Gilgandra Services Club Kate Smith Memorial Gold Cup over 1550 metres was won by the Leo Harland, Gilgandra-trained Trust Me Bill.
The nine-year-old Bay gelding is owned and raced by the Harland family who were all trackside madly cheering Bill and Bathurst apprentice Ashleigh Stanley home.
Stephanie Healy from Brisbane was named the best dressed filly in the day’s fashions on the field events while Catherine Carahurst also from Brisbane took home the prize for the best headwear.
Gilgandra locals dominated the remaining categories with Jesse Schweida and Douglas Diggs named the best dressed colt and gent respectively.
Narelle Dunkley and Robert Larkings were the judges’ pick for the best dressed couple with Carola Maier and Julie Hazleton the best dressed ladies.
