The 28th annual Kurrajong Park Merino ram sale reached a sale high of $2300 at the on-property sale near Delungra on Tuesday.
Rodney and Graham Kent offered 47 poll and horned rams, selling 35 at auction to average $1132.
Australian Wool Network auctioneer John Croake said presenting paddock reared rams that weigh between 95-110kg was a testament to the outstanding flock management at Kurrajong Park.
Walcha based ultra-fine wool growers, Barry and Stephen Hoy, Miltiades Grazing Company, purchased the top priced ram for $2300.
Weighing 109 kilograms at 24 months of age, the Roseville Park 98 son measured 17.3 micron, coefficient of variance of 15.3 per cent, standard deviation of 2.7 and a comfort factor of 99.9.
The Hoys join 1500 Merino ewes annually, 1000 to Merino rams and the remaining 500 to Border Leicester sires.
The Hoys liked the ram’s frame and figures and said his style of wool would match in well with their current program.
“We have been purchasing from the Kents for four years and are looking to get a bit extra frame into our flock and the soft wool type of the Kurrajong Park rams suits us well,” Barry Hoy said.
“In the last two years it has been the Kurrajong rams that have helped us produce finer wool.”
Graeme Page, Roselea Pastoral, Mt Russell, had been purchasing rams from Kurrajong Park since 1985 with 2019 the year he secured a Roseville Park 98 son for $2100.
He joins 400 Merino ewes annually and averages a flock micron of 18.
“He is a good stylish ram with even wool cover from top to bottom and very dense,” he said.
Ben Swain, Byron Pastoral, Inverell, was selecting to increase the wool cut and frame size in his Merino ewe flock.
He joins up to 4000 ewes annually, and purchased eight rams on the day to average $1025.
Rodney Kent was appreciative of the support of local long-term clients.
The sale was settled by Australian Wool Network.
