Tradition, entertainment and competition will come together for the 131st Gulgong Show.
The show is one of the many highlights on the Central West town’s calendar, attracting locals and visitors from afar.
Judging day will be held Friday, February 15, while show day on Saturday, February 16, will feature a variety of entertainment, including:
- The Baby Animal Nursery, with craft area and water gun tent run by the Mudgee Scouts group.
- Model train demo.
- Blade shearing demo by Sashy Con Pty Ltd.
- Snake handling with Paul Kirk.
- Murphy’s puppets.
- Stilt walkers “The Cows”.
- Yard dog trials demo by Ann Leonard.
- Step Up Dance Academy Performance.
- Musical performances from Wicked Whiskey.
- Daphne Brooks and the Two Mile Twangers.
- Free face painting from 10am-2pm.
- Mechanical bull known as the ‘Mad Cow’ from 3-6pm.
- Miss Timberlina will make a guest appearance, while Des Kelly will be on the roving microphone.
The show will be officially launched at 11am on Saturday by a representative of the show’s major sponsor Moolarben Coal’s Trevor Adams, followed by the junior Showgirl presentations shortly after.
There will also be the woodchop, whip cracking, the Gulgong dash and fireworks display commencing about 8.15pm (weather permitting).
The pavilion will be bursting with displays of cooking, flowers, photography, art, needlework and much more.
Other competitive sections include horses, goats, sheep, wool, poultry and pigeons.
There will also be classic cars, motorcycles, engines and tractors on display at the beaut ute, car, bike, truck and machinery show.
Don’t forget the pet show – a crowd favourite for many families!
The 2019 show features a new section in the cooking for men only, who can create a chocolate cake with icing.
There will be many food and beverage options available, with the show society barbecue starting early, the air-conditioned dining room will be open, and the bar will be operating from 12pm thanks to Gulgong Netball Club.
Girls aged between eight and 12 years are invited to enter the Junior Showgirl section and girls between 13 and 17 for the Adolescent Showgirl section.
Interviews and judging will take place in the week preceding the show, with the presentation to be held on show day. Entries close Friday, February 8.
The Gulgong Show Society encourages the community to become members. Adult membership ($10) includes a free show book, entry, and children under the age of 16 accompanied by the member get into the show for free.
A junior membership for children under 16 years is only $3 per person.
