REPEAT ram sale buyers don’t come as committed as Frank Presnell.
At 99, Mr Presnell didn’t let his age stop him from being part of the crowd at the Shalimar Park ram sale at Wollun on Wednesday after looking over the stud’s genetics for almost 50 years.
His attendance wasn’t just a social outing, his offsider, Reg Walls, assisted him to buy two rams for $800 and $1200.
Mr Presnell owns the property, Frama, at Ben Lomond, running about 500 breeding ewes with a 16.8 micron fleece and 14.9 micron for hoggets.
They were looking for a heavy cutting and big upstanding ram.
Mr Presnell said the 2019 line was as good as there had ever been.
“Reg (Walls) does the bidding but I still have a look at them (the rams),” he said.
Mr Walls admitted Mr Presnell hadn’t slowed down on the property either.
“He still sprays thistles and does a bit of mustering,” he said.
So what’s the secret to long-lasting life on the land?
“He has a glass of red wine every day,” Mr Walls said.
“He used to have two.”
