A dedicated group of return buyers battled a windy but cooler day at the Narranmore Poll Dorset sale held at Elong Elong on Friday.
A total of 56 of the 71 rams offered sold to a top of $2300 twice and averaged $1133.
Stock manager Rob Naef was the first to purchase a top priced ram on behalf of Paul McGirr, Wongaboori, Mendooran.
“He is a nice big strong ram, one of the better ones here,” he said.
“They all pretty good but he is one of the best.
“We always buy the best ram at this sale. He will breed better suckers; the better the ram the better the lambs.
“Our draft of three were all good rams, they are all fairly equal.”
Dunedoo fat lamb producer Greg Sullivan took home the other top priced ram.
He felt the Narranmore rams were early maturing and had served him well for more than 20 years.
“They are good value,” he said.
“I thought this ram was a nice fresh ram with a lot of length and good muscle. I think he will do the job well with early maturing lambs.
“It’s always good to get them off early.”
Taking home 11 rams was Coolah commercial producer Doug Arnott.
“I have bought here for a number of years,” he said.
“I like the eveness throughout the draft. You can always get a good volume number of rams as you need them.
“We turn off the lambs as early as we can so we are looking for early maturing type of ram who will help produce those early sucker type of lambs.”
Another of the volume purchasers were repeat buyers Frampton Farms, Merriwa. They took home a draft of 10.
Narranmore co-principal Christine O’Leary was happy with the sale considering the season and lack of ewe numbers around.
“The top lot rams were the better rams in the sale, overall they were a very even draft of rams,” she said.
“We would like to thank all of our local return buyers.
“We had one new buyer who was also a local.”
Selling agent Angus Stuart of Milling Stuart Dunedoo said buyer numbers were down due to the seasonal conditions and ewe numbers being down in the district, but the rams presented very well.
The sale was conducted by Milling Stuart with Angus Stuart controlling the bids.
