WEANERS and young breeders with calves were well sought-after at the Dubbo store cattle sale last Friday with steers selling to $815 and cow/calf units to $1350.
PT Lord, Dakin’s agent Paul Dakin, said quality lines sold well among the 500 head.
“The market was very strong on the lines of well-bred weaners and young cows with calves, Mr Dakin said. ”However, buyers were selective on secondary cattle.”
Weaner steers ranged from $280 to $815 averaging $565 or 235 cents/kilogram while heifer weaners sold from $250 to $690 to average $420 or 204c/kg.
Cows with calves at foot were quoted $150 to $200 dearer with quality a major factor.
The best line was Brahman-cross units in good condition making a top at $1350.
PTIC cows to $510 and dry cows from $360 to $980 a head.
Harold Thompson, Bushby Park, Dubbo, gained $790 a head for 26 Angus and Angus-cross steers.
Noan Pastoral, Quiambones sold 34 Angus heifers up to $490 a head while the Capel family, Oakdale, Coolah gained $460 each for 13 Angus heifers and $%375 each for the second run of 13 head.
Yuulong Pastoral, Dubbo, sold six Hereford cows with calves at foot for $1230 a unit with another two at $1020.
