FILLIES were all the go at the opening session of the 2019 edition Inglis Classic Yearling Sale on Saturday night, when five females highlighted in the six top lots.
The sole filly of the sale by Snitzel was top at $370,000 selling from Mike Fleming’s Bhima Thoroughbreds, Scone, as agent, to Damion Flower’s Jadeskye Racing and Brad Widdup Racing.
Damion Flower may have been influenced by the fact that he also races the filly’s full-sister, Special Date, who has shown potential in her barrier trial wins but is still yet to race.
The night session saw six lots sell for $300,000 or more, and a total 13 fetch $200,000 or more of the 77 lots sold from the 114 lots offered for a $8.52 million in gross sales.
The overall first session average was $110,766.
The Gold Riband section proved popular, buyers spending $6.475 million on the 43 lots sold (from 59 offered) for a $150,581 average.
This average is almost the same as last year’s Gold Riband Session $150,000 average, but with a $9.33m gross.
Second top was another filly belonging to the second crop of Australian Horse Of The Year Dissident, from Exceed And Excel broodmare Sonnenblume.
The filly selling from Wayne and Pauline Alchin’s Carramar Park, Grose Wold, fetched $340,000 and went to Blandford Bloodstock in conjunction with Mr An from Mongolia.
In the top bracket of leading Australian sires - I Am Invincible and Written Tycoon, paved the way for popularity at the night session with the former sire’s five lots averaging $247,000, while the later Victorian based sire’s seven lots averaging $205,000 at the end of Saturday’s night session.
The top sale so far sits at $400,000 for a colt by Star Witness (from Defrock) which was sold from Jilly Henderson’s Noogee Park, Scone, yesterday.
The Sale continues today and tomorrow, and concludes with the new Highway Session on Thursday.
