A broad ribbon as a champion is the ultimate goal in the dairy ring.
Even better if it’s a supreme champion.
But for a group of young handlers, the next generation of ring stars you might say, just getting out in the show ring with their beloved animals was enough.
While the supreme champion cow announcement as the last event of the day was a highlight of the dairy section of the 143rd Nowra Show, without doubt it was the first class of the day for junior paraders 10 years and under that stole the show.
In Will’s case his heifer “Bailey” (Matinee Val Halen Bailey) towered over him but he wasn’t daunted proudly leading his entry around the ring under the guidance of his mother Renee.
Lucy proudly led Blissful Lennox Penny with Nick Crawford.
While Will and Lucy finished outside the main placings, the smiles on the faces showed they were having a great time.
At one stage there were almost more proud parents and grandparents in the ring taking photos then there were exhibitors.
For the record six-year-old Hayden Cochrane took the win with Kangawarra Myrtle ahead of Harry Crawford, also aged six, with Mario Park Alicia.
