They were readying for the judging of the Gunning flock ewe competition, but the real talk among Matt Hewitt, Barnie Byrnes and Frank Hannan was the storm cell headed their way on Friday.
The Land’s photographer Rachael Webb grabbed this shot about 4pm, half an hour later it was bucketing down.
Mr Hewitt said the cell passed through, delivering 20 millimetres of much-needed rain.
“It’s still pretty grim, we’ve had a bit of moisture for the start of February, but we really need another 20mm to 40mm over the next week or so to be considering easing up on feeding at all,” he said on Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday he was tending to his daily feeding regime before sowing about 12 hectares down to oats.
He’s got a similar-sized block slated for sowing in a couple of weeks and he’s now shutting up country to capitalise on what rain he’s had.
In next week’s edition we’ll have results of Crookwell, West Wyalong, and Boorowa Merino flock ewe competitions.
