Fire crews have gained the upper hand on blazes burning across northern NSW but predicted strong winds and hot conditions mean total fire bans have been declared once again.
Total fire bans will be in place across the Northern Slopes and North Western fire areas on Wednesday, the NSW Rural Fire Service says.
Those regions, along with the New England area, are forecast to face very high fire danger.
A blaze at Wallangarra flared up on Tuesday prompting a watch-and-act alert to be issued, although the fire was subsequently downgraded to advice level.
The bushfire west of Tabulam near the NSW-Queensland border has burned through more than 43,800 hectares. It's being controlled only now, authorities say.
Blazes have destroyed at least 120 homes and outbuildings across the state's north in the past week.
Teams of assessors have been travelling around Tingha and Tabulam where huge fires have ripped through a combined 80,000 hectares of bushland.
The RFS believes 32 houses have been destroyed and 21 homes have been damaged.
A further 88 outbuildings were destroyed and 31 damaged. More than 700 homes and structures remained untouched.
"Teams will continue their work over coming days," the service tweeted on Tuesday.
