Doug and Michelle Brunskill of Brunslea, Forest Hill near Wagga, used the new organic Worm Hit fertiliser pellets last year and were very pleased with the results, considering the drought.
They sowed 40kg/Ha of Worm Hit fertiliser (costing $37/Ha) with Moby Barley on 87 hectares which they grazed through last winter and three or four times in spring.
“We were particularly impressed with the barley’s large root mass and growth even after grazing it three to four times last winter,” Mr Brunskill said.
“We direct drilled the Barley and Worm Hit dry in April into a very hard dry clay based soil type at Brunslea which certainly was not ideal,
"But the root mass and deep root development, plant growth and moisture still in the soil last year during the drought was awesome."
The Brunskills also used Worm Hit fertiliser extensively with all the Moby Barely, direct drilled more than 350 hectares on their other property Broughton Brook between Oura and Wantabadgery.
They witnessed slightly better results despite the same drought conditions.
"After grazing it heavily with lambs and cattle through the drought, we still managed to cut more than 300 big square bales of silage off some paddocks which was pretty amazing," Mr Brunskill said.
"We were pleased with the result in a tough season and have already ordered another load of Worm Hit."
