As farmers across the southern region look to sky for a decent break in the season, they still have to focus on the core enterprises and plan accordingly to satisfy their business plan.
Southern NSW grain growers, advisers and industry stakeholders heard the latest agronomic advice and recommendations from paddock preparation and sowing through to harvest and storage during the Grains Research and Development Corporations Grains Research Update in Wagga Wagga on 19 February.
More than 270 people attended the annual two-day event, which is designed to deliver to industry new knowledge, insights and outcomes from cutting-edge research and development.
Among the many who spoke during the two days, Jordan Lindgren addressed the issue of applying R & D to help drive farm business profitability.
Jordan and his wife Jennifer operate Lindgren Farms, a 4600ha (11,500 acre) grain and oilseed farm at Norquay, Saskatchewan and were the 2018 Saskatchewan Outstanding Young Farmers award winners.
They pride themselves on the use of on-farm field scale trial results to meet and exceed their production goals.
Mr Lindgren discussed the factors critical to their success, including business management strategies, products, genetics and agronomic practices that work best on their farm.
