Attention women of Wagga Wagga, put 8 March into your diary for an event sponsored by the local branch of Westpac.
Now in its 108th year, the global theme for International Women's Day (IWD) 2019 is “#BalanceforBetter”, which is about promoting building a gender balanced world in business.
To be held on 8 March at 8.15am in the The Roundabout Restaurant on Tarcutta St, Wagga Wagga, the breakfast will provide local community and business members with the opportunity to hear from guest speakers Ginny Stevens, 2018 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award NSW State Finalist.
Mrs Stevens will talk about her journey in starting up her business Active Farmers.
Local business woman Jenny Wren, from Sprout_Ed will talk about gender equality in the workplace – in line with this year’s IWD theme.
Felicity Duffy, Westpac’s Head of Women’s Markets was born and raised in Wagga.
"I can confidently say regional and rural Australia is home to many remarkable women who are creating change and making a difference in our lives,” Mrs Duffy said.
“International Women’s Day is a day for us to help recognise the amazing contributions women make to business, to our communities, to our families and to our workplace.
"It’s a day to look back and be thankful for the progress in gender equality to date but it’s also a time to stop and think about what more needs to happen.”
Mrs Duffy added it is encouraging to see more women are becoming financially independent however financial confidence around understanding and managing money should start from an early age.
“Women face unique financial challenges compared to men, so my advice to all women on International Women’s Day is to try to become more informed about your money and financial future – the earlier, the better," she said.
"By learning about things such as superannuation, budgeting and savings goals, you can be empowered to make strong financial decisions later in life or in the times that matter most.”
